SeenThis receives SBTi approval on emissions reduction targets

SeenThis is announcing that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved their near-term science-based emissions reduction target. The SBTi drives ambitious climate action by defining and promoting best practices in emissions reductions and net-zero targets in line with climate science. The SBTi enables companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 °C.

Since 2017, SeenThis has been on a mission to create a more energy-efficient internet, starting with digital advertising and the media industry. Compared to traditional technology, their adaptive streaming solution is built to be smarter about if, what, and when data should be sent. SeenThis allows advertisers to reduce data usage by up to 50% and avoid an excessive carbon footprint.

During the application process, SeenThis analyzed its own carbon footprint in order to set reduction targets to be validated by the SBTi. Using this information, SeenThis commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.

Jesper Benon, SeenThis CEO, shares:  “Climate change is one of modern society's most pressing issues. At SeenThis, we are committed to being part of transformational sustainability and empowering our clients in their sustainability efforts. The SBTi framework provides a valuable goal setting standard. We believe our industry can greatly benefit from using measurable standards like this one.”

The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).More than 4,000 businesses around the world are already working with this groundbreaking initiative.
